FLAG Hosts Power Force Team at PHS

John Jacobs founded strength ministries in 1976 and in 2003 he broke off and formed the John Jacobs Next Generation Power Force. The team has visited 20,000 public schools in 40 different countries.

On April 27 and April 28 Flag hosted the power team at Pittsburg High School. On both nights the auditorium was packed; there was just under 300 the first night and 549 the second night.

The team was made up of 4 men and 1 woman: Jared Rost, Jerome King, Russ Clear, John Jacobs, and Christine Heniman.

Each shared their personal testimony of how Christ has changed and continues to touch their lives.

Heniman is the newest of the team at 3-4 months. She is the 3rd ever woman to be on the team and the only female currently.

She was Jacobs’ nanny for 6 months, for his son. Heniman got involved in the ministry and she tried some of the physical feats.

“I’ve always been strong and in competitions, so I was able to get on the team to try it out. It’s been a blessing ever since,” said Heniman.
Some of the physical feats done for the two nights included bursting a pop can over Pastor Mark’s head, ripping apart phone books, breaking handcuffs, ripping a license plate in two, and bending a frying pan.

Pastor Mark Lehman commented on why he brought John Jacob’s team to Pittsburg.
“I wanted to see lost people hear the gospel and to make a commitment to Christ and be saved,” said Lehman.
And that is just what happened. An estimated 65-70% came forward the second night to commit/recommit.

Pictured is the altar call of the 2nd night. The front was flooded with people and there were few people left sitting down.

The power force also visited Pittsburg Middle School and Columbus Middle School for school assemblies during their stay in Pittsburg.

Bonfire and cookout

Has the cost of gas eaten your entertainment budget? Looking for something to do?
Several times a month FOCUS ( the adult singles group) has weekend events.
“It (activities) provides an opportunity to further develop relationships and a chance to invite people together outside the 4 walls of the church, said Scott Bennett, FOCUS leader.

On April 20 the group met north of leader Scott Bennett’s house on 140th St for a bonfire/cookout.

Pictured (left to right) is Allison Keegan, Brad Braman, and Chris Dial talking before the cookout began.

One of the people who helped cook the hamburgers was singles group leader Lisa Bennett.

35 people attended. This number included friends and family of people in the group. The event lasted well into the night and marshmellows were roasted after the bonfire died down.

Upcoming events for the group include: May 17th service project- painting a house- time TBA, Bi- monthly Sunday lunches at 1pm (May 4- Elcharro’s and May 18 Wheat State Pizza), intermittent movie/game nights, and Heartfest in July -World’s of Fun and a Christian concert.

Attendance Breakdown - Three Services

With three services it is a recurring thought among poeple,

How many are attending the other services?

The service I attend always seems so full/empty.

The attendance numbers vary with the seasons. Sometimes weather will factor in. We have never yet had anyone complain because they have options!

The average attendances for this calendar year for each service are:
8:30 - 42 people
10:00 - 121 people
11:30 - 73 people

Thoughts:

If you attend the 8:30 service, thanks for creating space in our other two services for growth.

If you attend the 10:00 service, and you could just as easily attend the 8:30 or 11:30, if would free up more space for more growth.

If you attend the 11:30 service, thanks for creating space in the 10:00 service for growth.

Life group studies finances

Do you want to budget better? Or have financial peace?
An adult life group at FLAG discusses how to do those things and more.
Several couples meet at FLAG every Sunday at 4pm to study the DVD- based curriculum of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. People who attend have the opportunity to purchase the study kit.
The life group consists of mainly married people with children, currently 8 couples attend, but it is open to anyone who would like to come.

Pictured at right with their children are some of the people currently attending the life group (couples left to right) Juan and Carrie Jassos, Luke and Angela Soohoo, Kevin and Tanya Carder, Clayton and Amy Cambell, Wes and Michelle Manuel, and Anthony and Misty Navartnam.

Several of the people attending have said that they have learned a lot from the financial study.
-“The curriculum has challenged us to get on a budget and has given us the tools to do it,” said Kevin Carder.
-“It’s nice to know that not everyone is in financial peace. We’re all in the same boat,” said Tanya Carder.
- “We have learned discipline in finances as well as in other things in life,” said Luke Soohoo about himself and his wife Angela.

There are 11 more weeks of the financial study left. After it is over, the life group will divide into 2 groups and the future study will be determined by the groups.
If you would like more information about this life group please contact Clayton and Amy Cambell at 620-231-6064.
